AMARILLO, TX — Defense attorney Ryan Brown is calling for accountability after Amarillo police failed to fully investigate a possible DWI involving Assistant Chief Ken Funtek.
The June 19 incident involved a hit-and-run at Macaroni Joe’s, where witnesses said Funtek appeared intoxicated. However, no breath, blood, or urine tests were conducted, and Funtek was never questioned. The case was later dropped due to “insufficient evidence,” and Funtek is set to retire on August 11.
Brown stated, “If this had been anyone else, the investigation wouldn’t have ended in a parking lot.” He’s calling for outside agencies to handle future cases involving law enforcement.
