LEGAL ASSISTANT/OFFICE MANAGER
I always knew I wanted to help people, but I wasn’t quite sure how. Life has a funny way
of putting you on the right path.
I was born, raised, and attended college in my hometown of Pueblo Colorado. I met my
husband on a trip to Amarillo one summer and we got married and I moved to Amarillo.
I grew up knowing I wanted to help people. I majored in psychology and sociology and
intended to teach first grade or kindergarten.
I did my student teaching at a very poor school and I realized that those children would
probably never have the same opportunities that children from higher economic
backgrounds would have. I think that made me realize that there was a need for people
who have the heart to help others in any field.
After coming to Amarillo and eventually having a baby boy, I was asked by my best
friend to help at her law office for a few days. I ended up working more than a few days
and then I was asked by one of the lawyers, Selden Hale, if I could come to work full
time for him. I was certainly reluctant to leave my baby and go to work every day, but I
also felt called to help the people who came to us as clients. I felt these people needed
help, kindness, and understanding so badly. I agreed to go to work full time and worked
under the guidance of Selden Hale for more than 40 years!
One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that when people come to a lawyer they
are usually in the worst crisis of their life and they need someone who will listen to
them and understand that part of what they need is that person who cares and does
not judge them and who will really listen to them and try to help. I feel like I have been
that person for many, many people over the last four decades.
When Selden Hale retired and Ryan Brown took over his practice, I felt that I had found
a person who had the same beliefs and business practices that I admired so much in Mr.
Hale. We try every day to find the best in people and the very best ways to help people
in trouble and put our hearts and minds into finding a solution to their specific
problems.
